In this new
developmental psychology eBook,
Dr. McCarty pioneers a new lens to
view babies and ourselves. Western early development
models have been based on our biological human nature
with little mention of our spiritual nature. New findings
from Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology reveal we are
conscious aware beings already with a sense of SELF from
the beginning of life. This developmental psychology
text explores the mysteries of our basic nature and the
extraordinary stories babies, children, and adults tell
us of their life in the womb and birth. A new model of
the INTEGRATED SELF is
introduced that holds our transcendent AND human perspectives
and supports babies wholeness from the beginning of life.

"In her groundbreaking book Welcoming
Consciousness, Dr.
McCarty convincingly brings prenatal and perinatal psychology
into the 21st century. In weaving together astonishing
clinical stories, quantum physics, holographic theory,
psychology, and philosophy, she introduces an integrative
early development model that portrays babies as conscious,
aware, and sentient beings from the beginning of life.
This book is a MUST for anyone involved in pregnancy, birth,
and supporting babies and young children." - Paul
Brenner, M.D., Ph.D., Obstetrician and Psychotherapist,
Author, Buddha in the
Waiting Room
“Dr. Wendy Anne McCarty has given us
an amazing work by giving words to experiences that have
origins from preverbal time. She welcomes consciousness
by giving respect to early experience that so many of us
know in our heart of hearts to be true. For those who are
on the edge of discovering consciousness prior to the development
of our nervous systems, she helps us stretch our thinking
in ways that opens the doors into this new paradigm. Thank
you, Wendy.” - Raymond Castellino,
DC, Director, Castellino Prenatal and Birth Training, Clinical
Director, BEBA Clinic
“Dr. Wendy McCarty's text on Welcoming
Consciousness provides
a clear and substantive introduction to readers on the
latest theoretical developments in Pre and Perinatal Psychology. But
it is much more than that. Dr. McCarty weaves together
cutting edge knowledge from a variety of disciplines supporting
consciousness in the earliest stages of human life. As
well, she introduces original material from her clinical
work, provides an autoethnographic context, and begins
the task of articulating an integrated theory to "welcome" the
developing fetus and newborn into this world. She
has made a wonderful contribution to a new and emerging
field.” - Carolyn Kenny,

Development and Indigenous Studies, Antioch Ph.D. in Leadership
and Change

Supporting Babies’ Wholeness in the 21st Century: An Integrated Model of Early Development

JOPPPH 2006 Article: Supporting Babies’ Wholeness DOWNLOAD $14.95 |
Succinct 30-page journal version of Welcoming Consciousness’ Integrated Model with new ideas incorporated. Does not include the many clinical and family stories included in the WC book.
ABSTRACT: A holonomic holographic integrated model of early development is introduced reflecting clinical findings from prenatal and perinatal psychology as well as current western early development thought. Integrated model and discussion address: Wilber’s Integral approach, modes of empiricism, quantum physics, morphogenic fields, memory, Noetic science, fundamental sentient nature and continuity of self, transcendental and human levels of awareness, prenatal and birth therapy with babies and children, needs theory, integrated being/knowing: perception/senses, early experience and the adaptive unconscious, and the holonomic model imperative. This
paper is based on a presentation to the 10th International
Congress of APPPAH held in San Francisco, Dec. 2001 and
was published in APPPAH Journal, Journal of Prenatal
and Perinatal Psychology and Health, Vol 16(4), Summer
2002. ABSTRACT: This paper explores the development of
beliefs during the prenatal and perinatal period and how
babies portray their beliefs. Four
vignettes from therapeutic work with babies illustrate
the powerful impact beliefs already have in shaping their
lives. Sky resists breastfeed or anything around this mouth
at six weeks of age; Antara, after her experience in NICU,
is very frightened in new settings; and three-month old
Angelica is unhappy most of the time and acts as if she’s
still stuck in her mother’s birth canal. All successfully
resolve their stress patterns with PPN oriented therapeutic
assistance. The basic principles to help babies shift potentially
constrictive beliefs to more life enhancing ones are included.
This paper is intended as a theoretical and clinical exploration
leading to new thought, research and clinical direction.
This paper calls for a paradigm for infant development
and communication with babies based on the premise that
consciousness is the organizing principle of human
experience. The importance of both practitioner and parent’s
beliefs is discussed. 22 pages

“I wanted to let you know how
happy I was to open up my most recent issue of International
Doula from DONA, and see your name, and read your fabulous
article regarding article
in The International Doula Publication. You did a
great job of covering all of the historical bases in the
PPN field, and including the names of key players, you,
Emerson, Castellino, Chamberlain. Many times, doulas ask
me what exactly the PPN field covers, and I can now turn
them over to this article to help explain. Yes, even though
I am immersed in the PPN work, it is difficult to articulate
the layers of “research” and sound credible.
As I reread this article I realize how far we have all
come along in this field...and, the work ahead...Thank
you for inspiring me so.” -
Angelique Millette, SBGI graduate student in Prenatal and
Perinatal Psychology and Doula, CD (DONA), PCD (DONA).
